Co-Op Christmas Spiced Salted Caramel Pretzel Stars
What We Thought
For research purposes the staff in the Speak Garbage studio decided to sample Co-Op’s Christmas Spiced Salted Caramel Pretzel Stars.
The front of the packet describes the product as ‘sweet pretzels with a spiced salted caramel flavour’.
The packet contains 150g, which is approximately 5.3ounces for our USA friends. A portion is listed as 1/6 of the bag at 25g.
A portion of pretzel stars contains 108kcal, 2.8g fat, 18g carbs, 2.5g protein and 0.47g of salt.
For someone who is on a low sodium diet then this snack isn’t particularly healthy. For the poor unfortunate team at Speak Garbage we have to just grin and bear the unfortunate task of eating this highly salted snack.
First impressions are mmm these are good. The salted caramel flavour hit us almost immediately. The ‘spiced’ part of the snack is not so obvious.
However they do get a thumbs up from us.
Shamelessly copied from Wikipedia. A pretzel is a type of baked bread product made from dough most commonly shaped into a twisted knot. Pretzels originated in Europe, possibly among monastery monks in the Early Middle Ages. The traditional pretzel shape is a distinctive nonsymmetrical form, with the ends of a long strip of dough intertwined and then twisted back into itself in a certain way (a pretzel loop). In modern times, pretzels come in a range of different shapes. Salt is the most common seasoning for pretzels, complementing the washing soda or lye treatment that gives pretzels their traditional skin and flavor through the Maillard reaction; other seasonings include various cheeses, sugars, chocolate, glazes, seeds, or nuts. There are several varieties of pretzels, including soft pretzels, which must be eaten shortly after preparation, and hard-baked pretzels, which have a long shelf life.
